Awesome. I read an article about re-wolfing Yellowstone that said that wolf killed elk and bears chased wolfs off kills. This benefited all populations and rare plant populations because bear could not catch elk and elk grazed down rare shoots. With wolf, bears don’t starve and rare trees grow. Elk populations better controlled. Yay. Yeah, it is, but generally, farmers are in a fuckload of debt and the only way to get out of it is to get really lucky. It’s part of why corporate farming has taken over so much, they can afford the losses of a bad year but a mom and pop farm absolutely cannot. Any rancher whining about losses due to predators (at least in Wyoming) is just trying to fan sympathy to continue the compensation programs.
We have a commercialized hunting culture, which is a problem. I’m all for eating more venison, it tastes great, but the people who own all the land in Scotland don’t want the government controlling the deer population in case it impacts the amount of rich Italians that said landowners can import to blast the fuck out of electric transformers, shoot their dads/friends by accident (seriously google it there’s like one case of this every 6 months) and generally being a fucking nuisance to anyone who lives nearby. There are exceptions, of course, but a lot of those people don’t even live here. Think one of the owners is some Danish billionaire, owns like 200k acres.
