I read a really interesting book last spring semester that detailed the history of this in America. Basically, the American elite (from the south specifically) have always had a system that would drain lower-class workers of their wealth. They used racism (I wanna say created, but there were probably other factors at play that had existed already) to divide the lower class so that they would be distracted and have a scapegoat. We need to address all oppressions intersectionally. Taking one down first without taking down the others simultaneously is impossible. How can you end racism without addressing class when there is such a class gap between races? And how can you address class without addressing racism keeping the working class divided? We need a revolution that addresses all oppressions at once. Myopically tackling only one thing can never work. The people rioting and expropriating are mostly working-class and mostly people of Unicorn And Sloth Onwards At A Reasonable Speed Shirt color, and we shouldn’t diminish their agency by giving credit to the cops for it.
